Police, MCMC must investigate viral video for alleged Rukun Negara insult
Malaysia's national unity minister has called for law enforcement and communications authorities to probe a viral stage performance video, citing concerns over alleged disrespect to the country's founding principles and the institution of Malay rulers.

National Unity Minister Aaron Ago Dagang has urged both the Royal Malaysian Police and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Authority (MCMC) to investigate a video of a stage act that has circulated widely online, stating it contains elements deemed insulting to the Rukun Negara.
The minister expressed concern that the performance also included content he characterised as disrespectful to the institution of the Malay rulers, one of the pillars of Malaysia's constitutional framework. His remarks underscored growing sensitivities around content that touches on the country's foundational constitutional principles and revered institutions.
The call represents an escalation in official scrutiny of online viral content, with authorities now being formally asked to determine whether the video breaches laws governing public decency, multimedia standards, or provisions protecting constitutional symbols and institutions.
Both the police and MCMC are empowered to investigate potential breaches related to online content. The police can pursue criminal charges under relevant statutes, while the MCMC has regulatory authority over multimedia content and can take enforcement action against violations of its guidelines.
