Police negligence questioned after minors assaulted in Bihar town

An incident in Jamui, Bihar on the evening of September 19 has raised fresh questions about police responsiveness and procedural lapses in handling crimes against minors. Two underage students were reportedly harassed and assaulted on a public road, yet the local police department remained unaware of the incident until video footage went viral on social media platforms.
Neither the victims nor their families had filed a formal complaint with authorities at the time. It was only after the graphic video began circulating widely that police took cognizance of the matter and initiated formal action.
Following the emergence of the video evidence, the Jamui police registered a First Information Report and constituted a Special Investigation Team to probe the assault. Officers identified seven suspects in connection with the incident and arrested three individuals, including two juveniles, in the days following their investigation launch.
The case has drawn attention to broader concerns about victim reporting mechanisms and police awareness of street-level crimes against children in the region. Authorities have yet to provide a detailed statement on the circumstances that led to the delayed response.
