Police probe massive job scam targeting 4,000 in Uttar Pradesh

Police in Ballia district, Uttar Pradesh, have lodged a first information report (FIR) in connection with an elaborate recruitment fraud that victimised approximately 4,000 people across the region. The scam came to light when complainants reported being duped by individuals claiming to represent legitimate government employment initiatives.

The accused allegedly operated from a rented location in Tikhampur area of Ballia, where they fraudulently claimed to run three government schemes: the Laghu Udyog Vikas Parishad, Ujjwala Shiksha Mission, and Audyogik Prashikshan Mahila Vikas Yojana. By falsely identifying themselves as official representatives of these programmes, the perpetrators convinced job seekers to pay application fees and other charges under the guise of employment placement.

The modus operandi involved promising candidates government job placements and skills development opportunities while extracting money through various pretexts. Authorities have begun investigations to identify all individuals involved in the criminal network and recover funds obtained through fraudulent means.

The case highlights the vulnerability of job-seeking populations in rural areas to organised recruitment scams. Police have appealed to potential victims to come forward and file complaints, while cautioning the public against unauthorised recruitment agents operating outside official government channels.
