Police in Chandauli district, Uttar Pradesh, have seized over 10,000 litres of contraband liquor being transported from Haryana to Bihar, dealing a significant blow to smuggling operations in the region.
The interception occurred on National Highway-19 when officers inspected a container vehicle during a routine check. Hidden beneath sacks filled with wooden sawdust, authorities discovered 1,185 cases containing 10,451 litres of alcohol. The sophisticated concealment method—using the sawdust-filled bags as cover—suggests the involvement of organized smuggling networks.
Police have valued the seized liquor at over Rs 1.5 crore. The operation highlights ongoing efforts by law enforcement to combat illegal alcohol trafficking along major transport corridors connecting northern states. The contraband originated in Panipat, Haryana, and was destined for distribution in Bihar, where strict excise regulations make smuggled liquor a lucrative commodity.
Further investigations are underway to identify the smuggling network and apprehend individuals involved in the operation. The seizure represents one of the larger liquor contraband recoveries reported from the highway in recent months.
