Police seize 30 quintals of firecrackers in Varanasi ahead of Diwali

Police and the crime branch in Varanasi's Cantonment area have recovered approximately 30 quintals of firecrackers following a raid on a private residence ahead of the Diwali festival season. The operation, which took place in the densely populated area, drew significant attention as authorities worked to secure the illegal stockpile.

Rahul Gupta, the occupant of the premises, was taken into custody for failing to produce valid licensing documentation for the storage of firecrackers. According to police statements, the suspect could not present the requisite legal authorization for maintaining such a large quantity of explosive materials. A fire brigade team was deployed to the site during the operation to ensure safety protocols were followed.

Investigators are now focusing their efforts on determining the source of the firecrackers and ascertaining whether they were intended for commercial distribution or personal use. The police department has initiated a comprehensive inquiry to trace the supply chain and identify any potential networks involved in the unauthorized storage and distribution of firecrackers.

The seizure underscores ongoing law enforcement efforts across India to crack down on unlicensed firecracker operations, particularly during festive seasons when demand for explosives typically increases and storage violations become more prevalent.
