The Police Special Task Force (STF) has successfully seized a significant quantity of heroin during an operation conducted at Kapparathota Beach in the Weligama area. The drug consignment, weighing over 100 kilograms, represents one of the larger seizures reported in recent operations against narcotics trafficking in the country.
The heroin was discovered carefully packaged in 120 individual packets, which had been concealed within six sacks during the enforcement action. The method of concealment suggests an organized smuggling operation, with the drugs prepared for distribution or potential export.
The STF, which spearheads counter-narcotics and anti-smuggling operations across Sri Lanka, has not released additional details regarding the circumstances of the seizure or whether any arrests have been made in connection with the operation. The recovery underscores the ongoing challenge posed by drug trafficking through coastal regions.
The seizure adds to law enforcement's efforts to combat the flow of illegal narcotics into and through Sri Lanka. Authorities have intensified operations along coastal areas, which remain vulnerable to smuggling activities.
