Police conducted a special operation in the sea and coastal areas of Talalla in the southern district on Saturday morning, resulting in the seizure of more than 561 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine (ICE) and heroin, according to law enforcement officials.
The drugs are allegedly connected to Patabendige Sehan Sathsara, commonly known as 'Dehi Bale', who is identified as a large-scale drug trafficker with operations based in Georgia. The seizure represents one of the largest drug hauls in recent months and signals ongoing efforts by authorities to dismantle international trafficking networks operating in the region.
The operation targeted maritime and coastal zones where illegal drug shipments are commonly smuggled into the country. Intelligence-led policing enabled authorities to intercept the consignment before it could be distributed through local drug networks.
The seizure underscores Sri Lanka's continued battle against transnational drug trafficking, with law enforcement agencies working to sever links between international syndicates and domestic distribution chains. Investigations into the operation remain ongoing.
