ZAMBOANGA CITY — Police authorities conducted a pre-dawn operation Tuesday that resulted in the confiscation of an estimated P14 million worth of suspected smuggled cigarettes along the shoreline of Barangay Campo Islam here.
Lt. Col. Shellamie Chang, spokesperson for Police Regional Office 9 (PRO-9), said law enforcement personnel acted on intelligence regarding alleged illicit cigarette smuggling operations in the area. The coordinated operation reflects ongoing efforts to combat contraband trafficking in the resource-rich Zamboanga region.
The seizure adds to a series of recent anti-smuggling operations conducted by authorities across Mindanao's coastal areas. Investigators are examining the circumstances surrounding the shipment and tracing its intended destination and distribution network.
