COTABATO CITY — Police and Marine personnel conducted a hot pursuit operation in Parang, Maguindanao del Norte, that resulted in the seizure of a substantial shipment of suspected smuggled cigarettes on Monday afternoon, October 19.
Brigadier General Christopher Abecia, regional director of the Police Regional Office-Bansamoro Autonomous Region (PRO-BAR), confirmed the operation based on reports from the Parang Municipal Police Station. The enforcement action netted 300 master cases of cigarettes believed to have entered the country illegally.
The confiscated goods carry an estimated market value of P17.55 million, according to preliminary assessments by the arresting units. The seizure represents a significant blow to smuggling operations in the Bangsamoro region, which has long struggled with illicit trade in contraband cigarettes.
The suspect cigarettes are now in the custody of law enforcement authorities pending further investigation and processing of charges. The incident underscores ongoing efforts by regional police and military units to combat smuggling activities in Mindanao.
