Authorities flagged down the vehicle at approximately 6:40 a.m. during a routine checkpoint operation in Kolambugan, Lanao del Norte. Upon inspection, law enforcement officers discovered the cigarettes ingeniously concealed within ice boxes typically used for transporting fish, a common smuggling tactic employed to evade detection.

The coordinated operation between police and military personnel resulted in the seizure of the contraband goods valued at over P2 million. Investigators determined the cigarettes were suspected to be illegally imported, circumventing government tax and regulatory requirements.

The operation marks the latest in a series of enforcement actions targeting contraband smuggling operations across Mindanao. Authorities have intensified checkpoint operations along major transport routes to intercept illegal shipments and prevent untaxed goods from entering the commercial market.

The disposition of the seized cigarettes and ongoing investigation into the matter remain under the jurisdiction of appropriate law enforcement agencies.
