The Police Coast Guard issued the warning after investigating multiple reports from residents who fell victim to the sophisticated phishing scheme. Scammers created fake websites designed to closely mimic Simba's official online presence, positioning them prominently in sponsored search results to increase visibility and credibility among potential targets.
Victims were directed to the fraudulent sites after conducting online searches, where they unknowingly entered personal and financial information. The attackers exploited the trusted brand name to establish legitimacy, capitalizing on users' familiarity with the telecommunications company.
Police reminded residents to exercise caution when clicking on sponsored links in search results, particularly for financial transactions or account access. Recommended safeguards include verifying website URLs directly through official company channels, enabling two-factor authentication on accounts, and reporting suspicious communications immediately to authorities.
Members of the public who believe they have been compromised are urged to contact the Police Coast Guard and their financial institutions without delay. Simba has advised customers to change passwords and monitor their accounts for unauthorized activity.
