Police warn of WhatsApp scams promising easy earnings

Authorities in Rajasthan have issued a fresh advisory against a widening wave of online fraud targeting WhatsApp users with promises of substantial income. The scam operates by luring victims with advertisements and direct messages claiming easy money-making opportunities, only to fleece them of their savings through various deceptive tactics.

SP Amit Kumar Budaniya of Jhalawar district police confirmed that numerous residents have already fallen victim to the scheme. The fraudsters typically request personal information, bank details, or advance payments under the guise of registration or membership fees, the officer said.

Cybercrime experts caution that such schemes predominantly target individuals seeking supplementary income or quick financial gains. Once users engage with the scammers, they are often directed to fake websites or asked to make repeated payments for fictitious training programs or activation charges.

Police have advised citizens to immediately delete suspicious messages and avoid clicking on links from unknown sources. Users should verify the authenticity of any income opportunity through official channels and report suspected fraud to local law enforcement or the Cyber Crime Complaint Portal. Official WhatsApp communications typically do not solicit personal or financial information directly through the messaging platform.
