Political party demands independent inquiry into Bengal stampede tragedy

The Communist Janta Party's West Bengal unit on Saturday launched a renewed push for an independent probe into the Chorabagan stampede, insisting that any negligence uncovered during the investigation must result in accountability. The party organised a condolence programme and press conference to honour the victims and express solidarity with bereaved families.

Party representatives outlined a comprehensive set of demands aimed at preventing similar tragedies. These include mandatory safety audits of public gathering venues, deployment of trained emergency personnel, comprehensive evacuation plans, and enhanced coordination between emergency services across the state.

The party's coordinator, Prakriti Sahu, released a formal statement detailing the political outfit's expectations from state authorities. The demands include swift financial compensation and medical support for the injured and affected families, implementation of stricter safety guidelines governing major public gatherings and festival pandals statewide, and regular public disclosure of investigation findings and relief distribution measures.

The party announced plans to formally submit its demands to relevant government authorities in writing and seek detailed reports on actions taken in response to the stampede. The incident has intensified scrutiny over crowd management practices and emergency preparedness at large public events in West Bengal.
