Portugal boss, federation chief fail to stop Ronaldo leaving squad

Portugal's football hierarchy moved quickly to try to prevent their captain from leaving the squad, with both the team's manager and federation president rushing to the airport in a bid to convince Ronaldo to stay.

Jesus and Proenca's intervention proved unsuccessful, with the striker proceeding with his departure from the Danish capital where the Portuguese squad had been based for their latest international fixtures.

The circumstances surrounding Ronaldo's exit from the camp remain unclear, though the high-profile intervention by two of Portuguese football's senior figures underscores the significance of the situation.

The incident marks a notable moment in Ronaldo's relationship with the national team during his tenure as captain. Portugal had been preparing for upcoming matches as part of the international calendar.
