Post-cyclone deluge leaves 200+ villages marooned in Odisha

Heavy downpours in the aftermath of Cyclone Arnab have unleashed severe flooding across two of Odisha's southern districts, leaving administrative officials scrambling to coordinate relief efforts. The deluge has impacted more than 200 villages spread across 22 blocks in Ganjam and Gajapati, with road networks damaged and transport links severed in multiple locations.

Three major rivers swollen by the incessant rainfall have added to the crisis, with water levels rising well above normal thresholds and threatening settlements in low-lying areas. The combination of damaged infrastructure and blocked routes has effectively marooned several villages, complicating attempts by authorities to provide immediate assistance to stranded residents.

District administration teams have been mobilized to assess the full extent of damage and coordinate rescue and rehabilitation measures. Priority has been given to evacuating vulnerable populations from flood-prone zones and ensuring supply of essential provisions to cut-off communities.

The region continues to experience intermittent rainfall, though weather forecasters indicate conditions are expected to improve over the coming days. State authorities have appealed for additional resources as teams work to restore connectivity and evaluate long-term damage to agricultural lands, housing stock, and public infrastructure across the affected areas.
