Potapova eliminates Anisimova in U.S. Open third round
American 10th seed Amanda Anisimova's bid to recapture last year's final appearance at the U.S. Open ended in disappointment Saturday, falling to Austrian opponent Anastasia Potapova in straight sets.

Potapova dominated the encounter at the Arthur Ashe Stadium, defeating Anisimova 6-2 7-5 to advance past the third round in New York. The American 10th seed struggled to replicate her impressive form from the previous year, when she had reached the tournament final.
Anisimova fought back in the second set, tightening her grip on the match at 5-5, but Potapova proved too resilient in the closing stages. The Austrian converted her opportunities to seal the victory and eliminate one of the tournament's higher-seeded American hopefuls.
The loss marks a significant setback for Anisimova, who had entered the tournament as one of the favorites to make another deep run. Her early exit contrasts sharply with her momentum-building campaign of the previous year, when she had advanced all the way to the championship match.
Potapova will advance to the fourth round, continuing her impressive performance at this year's U.S. Open.
