Power politics, bureaucratic resistance hampering state reforms: TIB

Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB) has raised fresh concerns about the slow pace of state reforms, attributing the delays to persistent power politics and the protective mechanisms of bureaucratic institutions resistant to change.

The organization's assessment suggests that competing political interests and the consolidation of power within administrative structures are deliberately obstructing efforts to modernize government systems and improve institutional accountability. TIB emphasized that various reform initiatives have stalled or failed to achieve their intended objectives due to these entrenched obstacles.

According to TIB's analysis, powerful political figures and senior bureaucrats continue to prioritize factional interests over institutional strengthening and public welfare. This pattern has created a cycle where proposed reforms face systematic resistance from those benefiting from the current system.

The watchdog called for greater political will and commitment from leadership to overcome these barriers. TIB stressed that sustainable state reforms require dismantling the patronage networks that protect vested interests within government structures.

The organization urged stakeholders, including civil society organizations and development partners, to maintain pressure on authorities to implement comprehensive reforms that would enhance transparency, accountability, and institutional effectiveness across all levels of government.
