Prakash Raj vows nationwide protests will continue despite police intervention
Actor and activist Prakash Raj has pledged that peaceful demonstrations against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls will persist across the country. The assertion came after police briefly intervened at a protest gathering in the city on Friday.

Prakash Raj addressed reporters following a protest meeting at Manaveeyam Veedhi, where he reiterated his commitment to sustained grassroots mobilization against what he termed attempts to suppress legitimate dissent. The gathering drew scrutiny from local police, who initially halted proceedings citing lack of permission for microphone use. After a brief standoff, authorities permitted the event to continue.
The actor-activist invoked India's independence struggle and constitutional architects to frame the ongoing campaign, stating that the country's youth would draw inspiration from Mahatma Gandhi, B.R. Ambedkar, and Bhagat Singh in their resistance efforts. "There is Gandhi's blood in us, there is Ambedkar's blood in us, there is Bhagat Singh's blood in us," Raj told the gathering, pledging nonviolent action across multiple cities.
Raj's comments underscore growing concerns among civil society groups regarding the electoral commission's administrative procedures. The protests, framed as nonviolent demonstrations rooted in India's democratic traditions, are expected to expand to other regions in coming weeks. The movement seeks to mount pressure on policymakers through coordinated grassroots activism rather than confrontational methods.
