President calls for parental engagement in anti-drug strategy

The National Steering Committee convened under the President's chairmanship to address Sri Lanka's drug crisis, with a particular focus on preventive measures targeting youth and families. President Dissanayake instructed relevant officials to develop a coordinated approach that places parents at the forefront of efforts to shield children from substance abuse.
The President stressed that parental education and direct engagement represent critical components of a comprehensive anti-drug strategy. He emphasized the need for parents to understand the severity of the drug menace and equip themselves with skills to monitor their children's behaviour and identify warning signs.
President Dissanayake underscored that robust parent-child relationships form a stronger foundation for protection against drug influence than punitive legal measures alone.
