President forwards Court of Appeal judge nominations to Constitutional Council
President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has submitted recommendations to appoint two High Court judges to the Court of Appeal, forwarding the nominations to Sri Lanka's Constitutional Council for consideration. Additional judicial appointments to the High Court are also scheduled to proceed this week.

The President's Office has formally transmitted nominations for the appointment of High Court Judges Navaratne Marasinghe and Manjula Thilakaratne to the Court of Appeal to the Constitutional Council, marking the next step in the judicial appointment process.
The nominations follow established procedures requiring Constitutional Council approval before judicial appointments can be finalized. The council, comprising senior government and opposition representatives, plays a crucial oversight role in judicial personnel decisions.
Simultaneously, the President's Media Division announced that several additional judicial officers are scheduled to receive High Court judge appointments on September 23. The announcement underscores the administration's effort to address vacancies and strengthen judicial capacity across Sri Lanka's court system.
These appointments come as the judiciary continues to handle a substantial caseload across multiple jurisdictions. The staggered introduction of new judges aims to maintain institutional stability while expanding the bench's capacity to manage pending matters.
