MANILA — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. received an honorary doctorate from Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila (PLM) during the city-run university's graduation rites on Thursday.

The President was conferred a Doctor of Laws degree, honoris causa, recognizing the Latin distinction granted "for the sake of honor" to individuals of notable achievement and distinction.

The conferment represents the first formal higher education degree awarded to the chief executive. PLM, operated by the city government, presented the honor during its commencement exercises as part of recognition for leadership and service.

Honoraris causa degrees are typically bestowed by educational institutions on distinguished individuals deemed to have made significant contributions to their respective fields or to society at large.
