President Opens ABU General Assembly in Colombo with Regional Media Leaders

The opening ceremony of the 63rd General Assembly of the Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU) took place in Colombo on Sunday morning under the patronage of President Dissanayake. The event marks a significant gathering for the region's broadcasting sector, drawing media professionals and institutional representatives to discuss contemporary issues facing electronic media.

The conference is being attended by representatives from 225 electronic media organisations spanning 66 countries, all affiliated with the ABU. The assembly serves as a major platform for regional broadcasters to share experiences, deliberate on industry challenges, and collaborate on matters of mutual interest affecting the Asia-Pacific broadcasting landscape.

As one of the most significant gatherings of the Asia-Pacific broadcasting community, the assembly provides an opportunity for stakeholders to address evolving trends in media technology, regulation, and content creation. The presence of such a large delegation underscores the importance the region's media organisations place on collective engagement and dialogue within the ABU framework.

The ABU, founded in 1964, represents the interests of public and private broadcasters throughout Asia and the Pacific region, making it a key forum for advancing professional standards and cooperation in electronic media.
