The Petroleum Distributors Association has raised alarm over supply constraints affecting approximately 500 fuel stations nationwide, as private petroleum companies tighten distribution channels. Sinopec, R.M. Parks, and Lanka IOC have reportedly imposed restrictions on fuel supplies to these outlets, creating significant challenges for station operators.
The supply restrictions have been particularly acute in the diesel segment, with distribution limitations affecting around 250 filling stations, according to the association. The move has compounded existing pressures on the retail fuel sector and raised questions about fuel availability across the island.
The restrictions reflect broader supply chain challenges facing Sri Lanka's petroleum distribution network. Private fuel companies have not publicly disclosed the reasons behind the supply controls, though industry observers attribute the measures to various commercial and logistical factors affecting the sector.
The Petroleum Distributors Association's warning underscores growing concerns about fuel accessibility for consumers and the operational viability of smaller filling station networks dependent on stable supply agreements with major petroleum distributors.
