Proper smartphone cleaning essential to prevent damage, experts advise
Regular smartphone use accumulates dust and debris that can compromise device performance. Proper cleaning techniques for screens, cameras, speakers and charging ports help extend device lifespan.

Smartphones have become indispensable daily devices for millions across India, yet their frequent use inevitably leads to accumulation of dust, dirt and grime that can impair functionality. Without proper maintenance, these particles pose risks to sensitive components and overall device longevity.
The display screen requires careful attention during cleaning. Users should power off their device and use a soft, lint-free microfiber cloth—similar to those provided with eyeglasses—slightly dampened with distilled water. Avoid harsh chemicals or excessive moisture that could damage the screen's protective coating or seep into internal components.
Camera lenses and speaker grilles demand delicate handling. A soft brush or compressed air can effectively remove surface particles from these areas without risk of scratching or forcing debris deeper into ports. For stubborn grime on camera lenses, a barely moistened cloth should be applied gently in circular motions.
The charging port and headphone jack, where applicable, accumulate lint and dust that can obstruct connections and prevent proper charging. Compressed air or a small, soft brush works effectively for these tight spaces. Users should never insert metal objects or apply excessive force when cleaning ports.
Regular maintenance—ideally weekly—helps prevent buildup that becomes harder to remove over time. Keeping smartphones in protective cases and avoiding use in dusty environments can further minimize cleaning requirements and preserve device performance.
