The Real Estate and Housing Developers' Association (Rehda) has submitted its pre-budget recommendations to the government, prioritising expanded access to the Housing Credit Guarantee Scheme (SJKP) as a key measure to stimulate the residential market. The association argues that broadening eligibility criteria under the scheme would enable more homebuyers to secure financing, particularly first-time purchasers and middle-income households facing tight lending conditions. Rehda's submission comes as developers grapple with a persistent inventory of unsold units across the country, a challenge that has weighed on sector sentiment and construction activity. Beyond financing reforms, Rehda has proposed launching targeted promotional campaigns to accelerate sales of completed but unoccupied properties, suggesting coordinated marketing efforts that could help clear excess stock and free up capital for fresh development projects. The association's recommendations reflect broader industry concerns about market accessibility and inventory management, with officials emphasizing that strategic government interventions could stabilize the sector and support affordability objectives for Malaysian homebuyers.
