Prosecution counsel denies impeachment statements aimed at influencing court

MANILA — Counsel for the prosecution Benjamin Tolosa Jr. has rejected claims that his recent statements during media interviews were intended to influence the Senate Impeachment Court toward convicting Vice President Sara Duterte.
Tolosa said in a Friday interview that his remarks have been taken out of context and that reviewing complete recordings of his statements would provide necessary clarity regarding his intent and meaning.
The prosecutor's clarification comes as the impeachment proceedings against the Vice President continue before the Senate, with defense and prosecution camps engaging in public commentary on the case.
Tolosa maintained that his media appearances were part of legitimate public discourse surrounding the impeachment matter and did not cross professional boundaries or constitute an attempt to prejudice the court's deliberations.
The case remains under active consideration by the Senate Impeachment Court as both sides present arguments and evidence in the high-profile proceeding.
