MANILA — The impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte moved into a new phase Monday as the House prosecution panel completed its evidence presentation after delivering testimony and documentary proof spanning three articles of impeachment.

The prosecution's case centered on allegations involving grave threats, the handling of confidential and intelligence funds, and additional charges of grave misconduct. Prosecutors presented multiple witnesses and supporting documents to substantiate claims against the Vice President during the Senate trial.

The expedited timeline marked a significant departure from pretrial expectations. In its initial pretrial brief, the prosecution had requested 62 trial dates to present its case, but the panel successfully condensed its presentation considerably, concluding its evidence phase by Monday.

The completion of the prosecution's case now sets the stage for the defense to present its counter-evidence and arguments. The Senate will subsequently weigh both sides' presentations before proceeding to deliberations on the impeachment charges.

The trial continues to command significant public attention as one of the most consequential political proceedings in recent Philippine history.
