Senior Additional Solicitor General Haripriya Jayasundera, PC, emphasized the need for punishments that would discourage individuals from any religious or social background from embracing extremist ideologies. The statement was made during closing submissions ahead of the tribunal's judgment, signaling the prosecution's position on sentencing severity. The prosecution highlighted that none of the accused persons have demonstrated remorse for their alleged roles in the attacks, which killed hundreds of people in April 2019. The Trial-at-Bar, a special three-judge bench established to hear the case, is expected to announce its verdict following the conclusion of legal arguments.
