MANILA — Prosecutors investigating Vice President Sara Duterte on Monday sought to summon three Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) officials to testify in her impeachment trial, according to court records from the 17th day of proceedings.
The House prosecution panel, led by congressman Gerville Luistro, filed the request as part of efforts to establish evidence regarding Duterte's alleged misuse of confidential funds from the Department of Education (DepEd). The specific identities and roles of the three AFP officials were not immediately disclosed.
The impeachment trial has entered its middle stages with prosecutors building their case through witness testimony and documentary evidence. The involvement of military officials suggests the prosecution is exploring potential connections or transactions related to the disputed DepEd funds.
