PTI to mount legal challenge against federal takeover of Pakistani province
Pakistan's opposition Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf party said it will challenge the federal government's assumption of control over Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province in court. The move comes after authorities imposed emergency measures in the province, which PTI had previously governed.

Pakistan's opposition Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf party announced plans to legally contest the federal government's takeover of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province following the implementation of emergency laws that have suspended civil liberties in the region.
The party's central information secretary Sheikh Waqas Akram said PTI would file a constitutional challenge against the extraordinary measures, which effectively transferred provincial governance authority to the federal administration on Sunday.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has been governed by PTI, whose leader Imran Khan is currently imprisoned. The federal intervention represents a significant setback for the party's political presence in the strategically important province.
The suspension of civil liberties and emergency administration typically grants broad executive powers to federal authorities while restricting normal democratic procedures. PTI's legal team is expected to argue that the takeover violates constitutional protections for provincial autonomy.
The development intensifies political tensions in Pakistan as the country navigates competing power dynamics between provincial and federal governance structures. The outcome of any legal proceedings could have implications for provincial autonomy across Pakistan's political system.
