Public sector stocks surge as investors flock to PSU, CPSE shares

Public sector stocks gathered momentum in intraday trading Monday, with the BSE PSU and CPSE indices climbing 2 percent as investors rotated into state-owned enterprises across key sectors.

The rally was broadly distributed across energy infrastructure and transportation holdings. Power generation major NTPC, coal producer Coal India, and railway and infrastructure names including IRCON International, Rail Vikas Nigam Limited, RailTel Corporation of India, RITES and BEML all advanced between 3 and 6 percent during the session. Engineers India and ITI, the defence and electronics manufacturer, posted steeper gains approaching 19 percent, underscoring selective strength in niche segments.

The performance reflected renewed interest in public sector equities, which have periodically attracted investor attention based on valuation and sectoral cycles. Infrastructure and utility stocks remain sensitive to factors including policy announcements, commodity price movements and macroeconomic conditions.

Analysts often point to PSU stocks' potential appeal during periods of economic recovery and infrastructure-focused spending, though individual stock performance varies based on company-specific fundamentals and sector dynamics.
