Public urged to use formal channel for media ethics complaints
Malaysia's Communications Minister has directed members of the public to lodge complaints about media ethics through the Malaysian Media Council rather than other avenues. The guidance aims to streamline the handling of concerns about local journalism standards.

Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil has called on the public to utilise the official complaints mechanism established by the Malaysian Media Council when raising concerns about the ethical conduct of media organisations and journalists. Speaking in Shah Alam on Wednesday, Fahmi emphasised that the council's formal channel is the appropriate avenue for such grievances, ensuring complaints are properly documented and addressed through established procedures. The Malaysian Media Council operates as the industry's self-regulatory body, tasked with upholding professional standards and investigating breaches of journalism ethics across the country's media landscape. By channelling complaints through this official mechanism, Fahmi suggested that concerns would receive appropriate scrutiny and resolution within an established framework rather than through ad-hoc or informal processes. The minister's remarks reflect ongoing efforts by Malaysian authorities to strengthen media accountability while encouraging public participation in maintaining journalism standards across the sector.
