CALAPAN CITY — The Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) of Puerto Galera has issued a health advisory as transboundary haze from Indonesian forest fires continues to envelop the coastal municipality in Oriental Mindoro.
The warning, issued Friday, alerts both residents and visitors to the potential dangers posed by the thick smoke accumulation. While the haze may appear similar to ordinary mist at first glance, the MDRRMO stressed that it contains concentrated levels of harmful particulates that can affect respiratory health and overall well-being.
Authorities are recommending that individuals take appropriate health precautions, including limiting outdoor activities and using protective masks when necessary. Those with pre-existing respiratory conditions, children, and elderly residents are advised to exercise particular caution and monitor their health closely.
