Pune to impose weekly water supply suspension from mid-October
The Pune Municipal Corporation has announced plans to suspend water supply every Thursday beginning October 15, citing depleted water reserves at the Khadakwasla dam that supplies the city.

The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has announced a weekly water supply suspension effective October 15 as a water conservation measure. The city will remain without piped water supply every Thursday, marking an escalation in rationing efforts amid declining water availability.
The decision comes as water storage levels at Khadakwasla dam, the primary source supplying Pune, have fallen below the typical October levels. According to PMC officials, the current water reserves are significantly lower than the quantities usually available during this period of the year.
The weekly shutdown represents part of the civic body's broader strategy to manage the city's water resources during the drier months. Residents have been advised to store sufficient water on Wednesdays to sustain through Thursday, when no supply will be available through the municipal network.
The PMC's move reflects growing water stress across Maharashtra's urban centers as monsoon-dependent reservoirs face mounting pressure from expanding populations and changing rainfall patterns. The corporation has urged citizens to adopt water-saving measures to mitigate the impact of the planned suspensions.
