Punjab Congress chief Warring poised to step down amid leadership reshuffle

The Congress party is moving forward with changes to its Punjab leadership structure, according to party insiders familiar with the development. Warring's tenure as state chief appears to be drawing to a close, signalling a broader reorganisation within the state unit of India's grand old party.

Vijay Inder Singla, a prominent Congress figure with significant standing within the organisation, is being widely discussed as the frontrunner to assume the position vacated by Warring. Sources within the party hierarchy indicated that the formal announcement of the transition could be made in the coming days.

The leadership change comes at a crucial time for the Congress in Punjab, where the party has been working to consolidate its position. The reshuffle is expected to provide fresh momentum to the state unit's organisational efforts.

While party officials have refrained from making official statements, the consensus among party sources suggests that the transition has been in the works for some time. The timing of the announcement is being carefully coordinated at the higher levels of the party structure, sources said.
