Punjab police have secured the extradition of gangster Gurwinder Singh, known by the alias Afridi, after he was apprehended while operating from outside India. The accused was facing charges in over 30 criminal cases registered across Punjab, with authorities having announced a reward of ₹5 lakh for his capture.
According to law enforcement officials, Gurwinder directed a network of criminal operatives involved in targeted killings, extortion-related shootings, and organised criminal activities across the state. His operations reportedly spanned multiple districts while he maintained coordination from abroad, evading authorities for an extended period.
The arrest marks a significant achievement for Punjab police in their ongoing crackdown against organised crime and inter-state criminal networks. Officials stated that Gurwinder's extradition would facilitate investigations into numerous cases linked to his syndicate and help dismantled the operational structure of his criminal enterprise.
The gangster is expected to face interrogation by investigating agencies to establish his role in specific criminal incidents and identify other members of his network. His custody will enable police to pursue leads in connection with various unsolved cases registered against him across Punjab.
