Punjab government employees have terminated their strike action following talks with the administration that yielded commitments to address their grievances.
The workforce had observed a complete strike on Tuesday, September 8, in response to a government letter classifying their August 27 mass casual leave as unauthorised. The coordinated absence had been undertaken as a protest against ongoing workplace issues.
During negotiations, government representatives provided assurances that prompted the striking employees to return to work. The staff had sought withdrawal of the official characterisation of their August 27 action, viewing the "unauthorised leave" designation as punitive.
The resolution marks the conclusion of a standoff that had begun when government workers mobilised in late August, using casual leave provisions to stage their demonstration. Officials said discussions had focused on the classification dispute and broader employee concerns.
The agreement has restored normal operations across Punjab government offices following the 24-hour disruption caused by the strike action.
