The Punjab Kings franchise must finalize their player retention and release list before the upcoming IPL mini auction. Following a disappointing campaign that saw them miss the playoffs, the team is expected to undertake significant squad changes.

Punjab Kings will need to trim their squad ahead of the Indian Premier League's mini auction, with the franchise required to submit official lists of retained and released players to the board before the event takes place.
The move comes after a lackluster season for the Mohali-based outfit, which failed to secure a playoff berth despite expectations of a competitive campaign. Team management is believed to be planning a comprehensive squad overhaul to strengthen their prospects for the next season.
The release of underperforming or surplus players will free up salary cap space for the Kings to pursue their targets during the auction. All IPL franchises face the same deadline to announce their retention decisions, marking the first step in rebuilding efforts across the league.
Punjab Kings' front office is expected to make strategic calls on which players to retain and which to let go, with the auction process providing an opportunity to acquire better-suited talent. The upcoming mini auction will give the team a chance to address gaps identified during the previous season's disappointing performance.
