Harjit Singh, a constable with the Punjab Police, was gunned down in Amritsar while performing PCR (Police Control Room) duty on Tuesday. According to police accounts, two unidentified assailants on a motorcycle chased Singh and fired at him from point-blank range, killing him at the scene.
The shooting marks another violent incident in the state and has raised fresh concerns about police security. Preliminary investigations suggest the attackers fled the scene, with authorities launching a manhunt to identify and apprehend the suspects. The motive behind the attack remains unclear at this stage.
The incident has become a flashpoint for political recriminations, with the BJP and Congress targeting the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP)-led government over deteriorating law and order in Punjab.
