Police in Amritsar have dismantled a sophisticated weapons smuggling network that allegedly procured firearms and explosives from Pakistan using unmanned drones, officials said. The operation resulted in the arrest of 11 suspects and the recovery of 12 pistols, two hand grenades, 33 ammunition rounds, and heroin, according to law enforcement sources.
Investigators have traced the network's operations to notorious gangster Happy Jatt and an alleged smuggler based in Dubai identified as Karan. The syndicate is believed to have used drone technology to bypass conventional border security measures and deliver contraband across the international boundary.
The seizure represents a significant blow to organized crime networks operating in Punjab, which have increasingly relied on unmanned aerial vehicles to transport weapons and drugs. Security agencies have intensified efforts to counter such smuggling operations, which pose a threat to public safety and national security.
The arrested suspects are currently in police custody and face charges related to weapons trafficking, narcotics smuggling, and conspiracy. Investigations are ongoing to identify additional members of the network and determine the full extent of their operations.
