Punjab's State Election Commission has published the final voter rolls for the state's upcoming elections, marking a substantial shift from earlier tallies. The comprehensive list shows a reduction of more than 13.60 lakh voters when compared to the Supplementary Interim Roll (SIR), translating to a decline of 6.33 percent in the total electorate.
The contraction in voter numbers reflects revisions made during the final compilation process, which typically accounts for duplicate entries, deceased voters, and individuals who have relocated outside their constituencies. Election officials attributed the changes to standard data cleansing procedures undertaken before finalizing the rolls.
However, when measured against the draft voter list released on August 13, the final roll demonstrates growth rather than decline. The latest compilation shows a 3.64 percent increase compared to the earlier draft version, indicating that additional eligible voters were added during the supplementary registration period that followed the draft publication.
The release of the final voter list represents a key procedural milestone in Punjab's electoral preparation, establishing the definitive electorate that will participate in the forthcoming state elections. Election officials have urged all registered voters to verify their entries and report discrepancies within the stipulated timeframe.
