Punjab & Sind Bank Q2 profit jumps 40% on stronger core income

Punjab & Sind Bank announced a 40 per cent surge in net profit to ₹412 crore for the second quarter of the current financial year, compared with ₹295 crore in the corresponding period last year. The improvement was underpinned by growth in core income and a significant reduction in non-performing assets, the lender said in a regulatory filing on Saturday.

Total income expanded to ₹3,747 crore in the September quarter from ₹3,373 crore a year earlier. Interest income, the bank's primary revenue driver, climbed to ₹3,394 crore from ₹2,999 crore in the year-ago period, reflecting improved lending activity and better pricing.

Net interest income, a key profitability metric, increased 22 per cent to ₹1,162 crore, up from ₹950 crore in the second quarter of the previous financial year. The net interest margin improved to 2.65 per cent from 2.56 per cent at the end of September 2025, indicating enhanced spreads on the bank's credit portfolio.

Operational efficiency also showed marked improvement. The cost-to-income ratio contracted sharply to 29.19 per cent from 61.87 per cent year-on-year, demonstrating effective expense management. Operating profit increased to ₹617 crore from ₹505 crore in the corresponding quarter, signalling stronger underlying business momentum across the bank's operations.
