Punjab woman's organ donation gives life after tragic road accident

Karanveer Kaur, a resident of Sangrur district in Punjab, was involved in a serious road accident that cut short her promising future. The 20-year-old had recently cleared her IELTS examination and was making final preparations to study abroad when the incident occurred.

Kaur was admitted to the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) in Chandigarh following the accident. On October 21, she was declared brain-stem dead by medical authorities at the hospital.

Facing an agonizing decision, Kaur's family chose to donate her organs, a gesture that is expected to provide a second chance at life for multiple recipients. The decision reflects the family's wish to find meaning in their tragic loss by helping others in need of organ transplants.

The incident highlights the continuing road safety challenges in Punjab while also underscoring the critical importance of organ donation in saving lives. Medical professionals at PGIMER coordinated the donation process to ensure the organs reached recipients quickly.
