Putin seeks trilateral summit with Trump, Xi to resolve Ukraine crisis

The Russian government has put forward a proposal for a high-level diplomatic meeting next month that would bring together President Vladimir Putin, U.S. President Donald Trump, and Chinese leader Xi Jinping to discuss potential pathways toward resolving the Ukraine war, according to reports from Moscow.

The Kremlin has indicated that such a trilateral dialogue could be arranged on the sidelines of the upcoming Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit, leveraging the gathering as an opportunity for the three leaders to engage in direct negotiations.

The proposal underscores Russia's apparent shift toward diplomatic engagement, with Moscow seeking to involve China and the United States as key stakeholders in any settlement of the Ukraine conflict. The timing of the suggestion coincides with renewed international focus on finding negotiated solutions to the protracted war that has claimed thousands of lives and displaced millions of Ukrainians.

The APEC summit, which brings together leading economies from the Asia-Pacific region, has historically served as a platform for bilateral and multilateral discussions on global issues. Whether the three leaders will accept the proposed trilateral summit remains unclear, with no official confirmation yet from Washington or Beijing regarding their participation.
