PUTRAJAYA — Authorities in Putrajaya have called on childcare centres and parents to engage in proactive discussions about contingency arrangements ahead of anticipated closures due to haze-related air quality concerns.
The advisory emphasises the importance of early coordination between childcare operators and families to identify practical alternative arrangements should air pollution levels force temporary shutdowns of facilities. Officials stressed that advance planning will help minimise disruption to working parents and ensure continuity of care for young children.
The guidance comes as Malaysia prepares for the haze season, which historically coincides with periods of elevated air pollution across the region. Previous years have seen childcare centres forced to close when the Air Pollutant Index reaches hazardous levels, creating challenges for parents managing work and childcare responsibilities.
Childcare operators are being encouraged to develop clear communication protocols and backup plans with parents, including potential shift arrangements, remote care options, or coordinated closure schedules. The government has indicated that centres should monitor air quality forecasts closely and provide timely updates to families.
Authorities also reminded operators of existing guidelines for operating during poor air quality conditions, including indoor activity protocols and health monitoring procedures for children.
