Putrajaya's public transport network is expanding with the introduction of a driverless electric bus, marking a significant step in the adoption of autonomous vehicle technology for mass transit in Malaysia. The new service, integrated into the existing Nadiputra public bus network, is scheduled to commence operations this week.

The autonomous bus will serve six designated stops within Putrajaya's transport corridor. Fares have been set at RM1 per ride, making it an affordable option for residents and workers commuting within the federal territory. The service represents a pilot programme to test autonomous vehicle integration in Malaysian public transport systems.

The move aligns with Malaysia's broader sustainability initiatives, as the electric bus produces zero direct emissions and reduces the carbon footprint of public transport. Autonomous vehicle technology is also expected to enhance operational efficiency by reducing labour costs and improving service reliability through consistent scheduling.

The launch comes as Putrajaya continues to position itself as a modern administrative hub with progressive infrastructure. Officials have indicated that the success of this pilot could pave the way for expanded autonomous bus services across other Malaysian cities, depending on technical performance and public acceptance.
