PVR INOX profit surges 149% on strong blockbuster performance

PVR INOX Ltd reported a sharp turnaround in profitability for the quarter ended September 30, with consolidated net profit climbing 149% year-on-year to Rs 263 crore. The strong performance reflects the theatrical release calendar's positive impact on audience turnout across the country's cinema halls.

Consolidated revenue for the second quarter of FY27 increased 16.9% to Rs 2,105 crore, while earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation expanded 25.2% compared to the same period last year. The company's EBITDA margin improved to 36.6%, signalling better operational efficiency and cost management across its theatre network.

The results underscore the cinema exhibition sector's recovery trajectory as the industry benefits from a steady stream of Hindi and regional language releases that have attracted audiences to multiplexes. The quarter saw several high-grossing films that bolstered ticket sales and ancillary revenue through food and beverage offerings.

The margin expansion suggests PVR INOX has successfully navigated inflationary pressures while maintaining pricing discipline. Industry observers note the results validate the multiplex operator's strategic positioning in India's entertainment market, particularly as consumer confidence in theatrical experiences remains resilient.
