Qatar signals willingness to host 2030 Asian Games if date shifts

Qatari officials have signalled the Gulf nation's flexibility regarding the Asian Games hosting schedule, expressing openness to accommodating a date change that could see the event held in 2031 instead of 2030.

The potential shift would position the Games several months before the 2032 Brisbane Olympics, creating a compressed timeline for major multi-sport competitions in the Asia-Pacific region. No official announcement regarding a date change has been made by the Olympic Council of Asia, which oversees the Games.

Qatar, which hosted the FIFA World Cup in 2022, has significant sporting infrastructure and experience managing large-scale international events. The country's indication of readiness underscores ongoing discussions within sporting bodies about optimal scheduling for continental competitions.

The 2030 Asian Games were originally awarded to Doha as part of efforts to strengthen Qatar's international sporting profile beyond football. Any rescheduling would require coordination among multiple stakeholders, including host cities, participating nations, and international sporting organisations managing the broader athletics calendar.
