Qatar's foreign ministry has issued a stark warning against any closure of the Bab al-Mandab strait, the strategic waterway connecting the Red Sea to the Arabian Sea and one of the world's most critical shipping lanes.

Ibrahim Al Hashmi, a senior official at Qatar's foreign ministry, cautioned that blocking the southern entrance to the Red Sea would be catastrophic for the global economy.
