Quang Tri authorities are testing unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) technology as part of a comprehensive strategy to bolster forest protection and ecosystem monitoring at Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park. The pilot programme represents an initial step toward modernising the province's approach to safeguarding its valuable natural resources.

The deployment of drones at the national park will enable more efficient surveillance and monitoring of forest conditions, wildlife habitats, and potential environmental threats across terrain that is often difficult to access through conventional methods. UAV technology offers provincial managers enhanced capabilities for real-time data collection and rapid response to emerging conservation challenges.

Beyond the immediate application at Phong Nha-Ke Bang, provincial officials plan to gradually expand the use of aerial monitoring systems to other natural resource management operations throughout Quang Tri. The broader rollout aims to create a more integrated and technology-enabled framework for environmental protection across the province.

The initiative underscores Vietnam's commitment to preserving the ecological and cultural values of its UNESCO-designated heritage sites while demonstrating how emerging technologies can support long-term conservation objectives. Success at Phong Nha-Ke Bang could serve as a model for similar applications in other protected areas across Southeast Asia.
